Palm Harbor Celebrates Annual Citrus Festival

Palm Harbor Celebrates Annual Citrus Festival

Tuesday, April 01, 2014

PALM HARBOR The Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce and Old Palm Harbor Main Street have partnered together to present the four-day event. Old Palm Harbor Main Street is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving quality of life and business in Old Palm Harbor. Live music, merrymaking and old-fashioned carnival fun join hands for the annual Palm Harbor Citrus Festival.

The Citrus Festival was conceived to honor the history and development of Palm Harbor. As early as 1860, Florida’s year round warm weather attracted settlers to Palm Harbor for farming, growing citrus and fishing. Citrus production in Palm Harbor declined during the 1940s and 1950s after two major freezes destroyed crops. Most of the citrus land in Palm Harbor was later sold to developers. A few groves are still in existence today.

The celebration runs along Florida Avenue between Alternate US Hwy 19 and Omaha street, Palm Harbor, FL 34683. This marks the sixth year for this celebration of citrus, with carnival rides, games, Dancing with the Palm Harbor Stars, a Citrus Queen beauty pageant, and kids' activities. Enjoy music, feast on a variety of cuisine from the food trucks on site, then quench your thirst at the craft beer garden.
