Pioneer starts Phase II Townhomes in Palm Harbor

PALM HARBOR – It wasn’t long ago that families across the nation were rocked by the nation’s housing crisis.

Banks, businesses and private individuals alike were all affected in the aftermath of the catastrophe and some people are still bearing with the economic burdens that resulted from the national scandal.

But several years have passed since then and many people now wonder where the housing industry has settled and if it’s safe to re-enter the market as a buyer. For those living in or looking at Palm Harbor, there’s already some good news to report.

A local company, Pioneer Homes, which has been in business for over 35 years, has invested approximately $18 million into energy-efficient construction of “green” or environmentally friendly townhomes in Palm Harbor. The homes are located in Harbor Ridge, 562 Harbor Ridge Drive, off Alt. U.S. 19, and are selling from $224,900.

The featured model is The Cypress, which has 1,700 square feet of living area to go with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a 2-car garage.

Company presidents, partners and cousins, George Zutes and George P. Stamas, along with their families, have resided in neighboring Tarpon Springs for five generations. He added that they chose this area of Palm Harbor in particular because the Pinellas Trail is across the street and gives homeowners easy access for biking and walking to parks, beaches, restaurants and local shops. Plus, Harbor Ridge is convenient to the Tarpon Springs campus of St. Petersburg College and Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club.

 

Harbor Ridge features 70 lots, most of which are on a lake. A privacy wall surrounds the community that includes a clubhouse and pool near the entrance.

 

Zutes and Stamas said Harbor Ridge should be built out soon, most likely by the end of the year.

 

“It’s fairly new, looks very nice and I like it,” said Lee Varner, who was recently checking out Harbor Ridge with his wife Barbara. “I think with the influx of snowbirds we’re going to need more housing like this.”

In addition to Harbor Ridge, Pioneer Homes has communities under construction in Safety Harbor, Citrus Park and Hudson. Another community, Osprey Ridge on Lake Tarpon, recently sold out.
